Living Water 2018/19
Living Water Confirmation is Shepherd of the Lake’s Middle School Ministry (5-8th grade) and one aspect of a lifelong journey of following Jesus. Through engaging worship and small groups youth will learn the basics of the Bible and explore the interaction between our faith and everyday life. In the final year, students combine they have learned in the three previous years with their God-given gifts to publicly affirm their faith before the congregation through an Affirmation of their Baptism.
With 600 kids registering year after year, this is the place where middle schoolers want to be on a Wednesday night.
We meet from 6:30 – 8:00 p.m. Wednesday nights from September into May (unless otherwise noted). We begin with a large group contemporary Christian music and an engaging speaker. Youth break off into their small groups for learning, activities, and conversations getting to know each other and God.
Living Water Guides: With 600 registered it takes a village to guide our youth in following Jesus. Many parents and some non-parents volunteer their time. They are provided with materials, curriculum, and guidance. Their task is to learn with the youth, to love the youth, and help us all have a safe and good time.
Pizza Dinner: Every Wednesday before Living Water Confirmation there is a pizza dinner open for all. For just a few dollars you can feed your whole family. Everyone is welcome to the dinner table.
Wednesday Worship: The Living Water Confirmation worships regularly on Wednesday nights. It might sound and look a little different from a Sunday worship, but when you have 600 kids, that’s bound to happen. Communion is served, and all are welcome to receive. Youth are invited to help lead in music and skits.
Sunday Leaders: Now that youth have completed Sunday School and are learning to be leaders in confirmation, Sunday is the place to practice. Youth who are in 5-12th grade serve on leadership teams in Sunday School, as ushers in worship, care for kids in the nursery, and serve on other hospitality teams.
- We expect that youth to attend Wednesday nights regularly (though we understand when life happens and you cannot make it).
- Youth should also be active in a faith community and worship regularly on Sunday (or another day). Confirmation time isn’t the same as worship.
- Each grade has a final project to complete at the end of the year.
Parents participating or volunteering. Some parents will be a Guide regularly, sometimes one parent cannot make it and another needs to step in. Some parents volunteer at retreats or other events.
