Baptism is a public declaration and celebration of your core identity, which has been true your whole life: You are a child of God. The gift of baptism is available to people of all ages. You do not need to be a member of Shepherd of the Lake to be baptized here. Wherever you are on your journey of faith, God welcomes you to the baptismal font! Funerals Funerals create an important space for both grief and celebration of the lives we share with our loved ones. Whether you've experienced the death of a loved one or you're planning ahead, Shepherd of the Lake will help support you on your journey. Typical funeral accommodations include a meeting with a pastor, visitation, funeral worship service, burial/internment, and luncheon. We want to help celebrate your loved one in a way that is meaningful for you and your family, so if you’re thinking of something a little different, please let us know. We will do our best to honor your ideas. Frequently Asked Questions My loved one just passed away, what do I do? You have a couple of choices: Call Shepherd of the Lake at 952-230-2988 and ask for the pastor on call. If no one answers or it is after hours, you will be prompted to the pastor on call. Call a local funeral home. Shepherd of the Lake uses Ballard-Sunder (952-447-2633), McNearny-Schmidt (952-445-2755), or White (952-894-5080). Do I need to be a member to have my or my loved one’s funeral at Shepherd of the Lake? No, you do not have to be a member. How many attendees can Shepherd of the Lake accommodate? Shepherd of the Lake can accommodate up to 800 people. Can I plan for my funeral now? Absolutely! Many families are grateful when the preferences of their loved ones are known and can be honored upon their passing. You can start preparing by using our Funeral Planning Guide which is available by emailing kariunruh@sollc.org . What does a funeral include and cost? When you have a funeral at Shepherd of the Lake, our funeral accommodations include clergy honorarium, musician, AV tech, custodial, luncheon coordinator, bulletins, and a building site fee. These accommodations typically cost around $1,150 when a funeral home is planning with the family and around $1,250 when no funeral home is used. Soloists/Cantors are also available for an additional $100 honorarium, and the cost of food for a luncheon is an additional cost of $3 to $4 per person. Is clergy available for offsite funerals? Yes, clergy is available for offsite funerals for a $250 honorarium. Please contact the main office at 952-230-2928 for more information on off-site funerals. I am having my loved one’s body cremated by the Cremation Society. Do I need a funeral home also? No, you do not, but it is highly recommended. There are a lot of steps involved, everything from ordering death certificates, submitting obituaries, providing a guest book, setting up for the visitation, and the list goes on. Funeral homes do all of this for you so you can focus on your family and not have to worry about all of the logistics. Do funeral homes also perform cremations? Yes, most of them do.

< Back Leah Toppen Leah has 11+ years of experience teaching and directing K-12 classroom music and band in both Wisconsin and Minnesota. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree from Luther College and received a Master of Arts in Education from Hamline University. Miss Leah has performed trumpet with the Marshfield Symphony Orchestra, Winona Brass Band, Winona Community Band, Prior Lake Windjammers, and is currently a member of the Delano Community Band. She is also a member of a brass quintet, PentaSonix, who performs around the metro area. Miss Leah has also been performing piano and organ for congregations in Wisconsin and Minnesota for 20+ years and enjoys accompanying local choirs and soloists. Currently, she is the organist, accompanist, and festival music director at Shepherd of the Lake Lutheran Church. Miss Leah lives in Mound with her husband and Bernese Mountain Dog, Lambeau. When she is not teaching or performing, she enjoys going to Minnesota United and Timberwolves games, hikes, paddle boards, and enjoys, playing reading, sewing, and knitting. Living Water is Shepherd of the Lake’s Middle School Ministry. It's an exciting and interactive program filled with music, games, faith formation, and small groups. Middle School Ministry 5th Grade through 8th Grade Living Water is Shepherd of the Lake’s Middle School Ministry. It's an exciting and interactive program filled with music, games, faith formation, and small groups. Youth in 5th through 8th grade gather every Wednesday during the school year to learn faith fundamentals, explore the Bible, and participate in faith discussions with peers and adult leaders. In the final year, students combine what they have learned in the three previous years to publicly affirm their faith before the congregation through an Affirmation of their Baptism. Join the Sunday School fun and grow in faith through connection, curiosity, and community! Sunday School is for preschool-fourth grade students. Sunday School Join the Sunday School fun and grow in faith through connection, curiosity, and community! You do not have to be a member of our church to attend. All are welcomed and affirmed with Open Hearts, Open Minds, and an Open Table! Children can begin Sunday School when they turn 3 years old and are able to use the bathroom independently. Sunday School is for preschool-fourth grade students. A caring adult from the child’s family is expected to lead 1-2 times in the program year. We are thrilled to announce that beginning next year (2025-2026), Sunday School costs will be covered by the financial gifts of the Shepherd of the Lake Community! We are grateful to have the capacity to offer fun and meaningful faith formation through our Sunday School ministry at no cost to participants. Thanks to all who give to SOLLC to make this possible! What leader expectations are there for parents and caregivers of Sunday School Students? We have a vibrant student leader program. Parents and caregivers of Sunday School students are expected to support these student leaders 1-2 times throughout the entire program year. You are given the opportunity to choose your first and second choice month at registration, and then will be assigned 1-2 Sundays. Shepherd of the Lake offers private music lessons for anyone wanting to learn an instrument. We also partner with Musikgarten to bring early childhood music to our community. Lesson Schedule - Year at a Glance Blue indicates lesson week, orange is make-up lessons, stars are recitals. There will be 6 sessions of lessons; registration will close two weeks prior to the start of a session. Each session includes 5 lessons. L esson times will be scheduled with the teacher directly, based on Student/Teacher availability. Lessons will be offered for Piano, Flute, Clarinet, Saxophone, Trumpet, Trombone, Baritone, Euphonium, Tuba, Guitar, Ukulele, Violin/Fiddle, Drumset, and Percussion! The next session is:
