Learn More The Link - Passageways A Shelter for Exploited Youth The Link's 28 programs provide supportive housing, intensive case management services, and skills development to youth at risk of or experiencing homelessness, sex trafficking, and/or involvement in the juvenile justice system. The Passageways Shelter and Housing Program provides specialized shelter beds for youth ages 12-17 and housing for youth ages 16-24 who are victims of sex trafficking. Our Church Council The Congregational Council of Shepherd of the Lake is responsible for defining and evaluating the mission of Shepherd of the Lake Lutheran Church. Elected at the Annual Meeting of the congregation, the Council meets monthly and works in partnership with the Sr. Pastor. Council members are passionate about this congregation and serve to discern how to take all of the resources of this faith community - the amazing talents, passions, and gifts of the people, the excellence of the facility, and the talented staff, and use them to best respond to Jesus' command to love God and serve our neighbors near and far. Community Plate A community meal for all Shepherd of the Lake Lutheran Church (SOLLC) and partner Smoke Signals gather all in the community for fo od and fellowship on the second and last Thursday of each month. Gather all, break bread, and enjoy fellowship. Volunteer Volunteers are needed to prepare, setup and serve meals for up to 200 guests. Groups are encouraged to sign up. Serve at SOLLC Serve the Wider Community Serve the World Serve on Outreach Teams Hope's Portage SERVE AT SOLLC Looking for ways to share your gifts of service within the walls of SOLLC? Volunteer with one of our many ministries. Serve Communion During Worship Each Sunday we will need 1 team lead and 8 communion servers to help with serving communion. The team lead will be responsible for setting up the communion stations and will need to arrive prior to the service to allow time. Check out our instructional video and sign up to serve. Sunday School Volunteer: Interested in leading a Sunday School group? You do not need a child in the program to be an adult leader. Please contact Andrea Sheridan for more details. Living Water Volunteer: Living water is our middle school faith formation program. Adult Leaders are truly the backbone of the program and are incredible witnesses of faith in action! There is no prerequisite for being a leader. We provide you with all materials, training, and support to make a deep and lasting impact in the lives of our middle schoolers. Our Helping Hands team provides various types of support and maintenance around the SOLLC building and grounds. Some of their past projects include painting, repairing, organizing, gardening, mulching and creatively solving needs from each ministry. If you have time and passion for this type of service, please reach out to Keith Wanttaja . SOLLC Events or Community Life Activities: We’d love for you to share your talents with our wonderful community! Help us get to know you! SERVE THE WIDER COMMUNITY Looking for ways to share your gifts of service in the wider community? Check out these opportunities with our SOLLC outreach ministries or community partners. Hope's Portage Hope's Portage is a transitional housing apartment building located across the street from Shepherd of the Lake. It will open in late fall 2025 and will provide 12 apartments for families experiencing homelessness. SOLLC is partnering with Scott County and CAP Agency to support this facility and the residing families. Shepherd of the Lake will provide wrap around services for the residents including a food pantry, starter supply packs, apartment flipping in between family stays, and special activities and events. Learn more and how to volunteer. Community Plate SOLLC, in partnership with Smoke Signals 501c3 Non-Profit, is working to combat food insecurity and gather all people for food and fellowship. We will offer a free monthly community meal the last Thursday of each month from 5:15pm-6:15pm. Volunteer to help prepare, serve, set up, or clean up this meal. Please spread the word and join us! CAP Agency The work we do with the CAP Agency assists and empowers individuals and families to achieve social and economic well-being in partnership with our community. How Can I Help: 1) Volunteer at the CAP Food Shelf. 2) Volunteer at the CAP Thrift Store. 3) Donate Non-Perishable Food . Please place your food donations in the bin located in the coat closet near main office at SOLLC. SisterLink Sister Link is a service group at SOLLC that provides support for the residents at Passageways (a shelter for trafficked teens and young adults ages 13-24). Our team supplies and leads craft and cooking activities as well as fun and fellowship. This group also facilitates the Gift Link program. Learn more or contact Laura Aase to get involved. When you come to worship on Sunday mornings, we want to ensure you feel comfortable with where you’re going and what to expect! Logistics Flow of Service Communion Where to Sit Sunday School LOGISTICS! When you enter through our main doors, our greeters will be there to help you find your way to where you need to go - whether it’s Sunday School, donuts & coffee, or just straight to worship. Feel free to mingle and enjoy conversations or make your way to your seat before worship begins. There are no paper programs or hymnals to grab; all scripture, prayers, and song lyrics are shown on the large screens in each corner of the worship center. Bring a Coffee or Grab One at SOLLC We welcome you to bring a coffee or grab one at church to enjoy during our time together. No Dress Code Come in whatever makes you feel comfortable and most authentically yourself! Kid-Friendly Wiggle Worship Kids were made to move, and we have created a space for them to do just that! We have set up various spots throughout the church that allows children to play and worship together! WHAT'S THE FLOW OF EACH SERVICE? Our worship services are approximately 45 minutes from start to finish. Music is a very important part of who we are at Shepherd of the Lake. We feature a variety of music ensembles, including a professional live band at our 10:30am service. Our 9am service is more traditional, featuring our bell choir, organist, and other choir ensembles. One of our pastors delivers the message each week. Children participating in Sunday School are welcomed into the worship service with a children’s message prior to Communion or the sacrament of baptism. We finish each service with a blessing and a song where the children are welcomed back up front to play musical instruments along with our musicians. Whether it’s your first worship experience with us or you’ve been with us for some time, we hope that you’ll always feel welcomed with Open Hearts, Open Minds, and an Open Table! COMMUNION Everyone is welcome to take communion, regardless of age, faith, and membership status. This is God’s meal, and all people should have access to the grace of God made known to us in Communion. Gluten-Free Options We offer a Gluten-Free Holy Communion option upon request. Just ask when you come up for communion. Communion Servers Each Sunday a team of volunteers assist with setting up the communion stations and serving communion during worship. If you're interested in serving in this way, learn more on our Serve page. WHERE TO SIT? We are blessed with ample space for our community to worship together. Not sure where to sit? See the various seating options available below and make yourself at home wherever you feel most comfortable. Balcony Seating Our balcony level is lined with chairs for people who are looking for stadium-type seating and/or easy wheelchair access. Main Floor Seating We offer a mix of chair seating and round tables on the main floor. The round tables offer space for kids (and grownups!) to color or have snacks. Behind the round tables is a playroom where kids can hang out with their grownups. Tiered Section Seating Our tiered section seating includes chairs on the left side of our worship area (when you’re looking at the main stage). This section also includes a children’s play area. SUNDAY SCHOOL Children ages 3 (toilet independent) through fourth grade are welcomed in Sunday School. Children must be registered to attend Sunday School for safety and preparation purposes. Shepherd of the Lake Lutheran Church outdoor summer worship on the 2nd Thursday of the month at 7pm in the courtyard. Join us for campfire songs, communion, reflection and s'mores. S'More Worship Join us for S'More Outdoor Worship Services in our courtyard on May 8, June 12, July 10, August 14 & September 11 (the 2nd Thursday of each month) at 7pm. We'll gather for fun and fellowship, prayer and praise, a scripture reflection, and Holy Communion.
