Volunteer with one of our many ministries. Serve Communion During Worship Each Sunday we will need 1 team lead and 8 communion servers to help with serving communion. The team lead will be responsible for setting up the communion stations and will need to arrive prior to the service to allow time. Check out our instructional video and sign up to serve. Sunday School Volunteer: Interested in leading a Sunday School group? You do not need a child in the program to be an adult leader. Please contact Andrea Sheridan for more details. Living Water Volunteer: Living water is our middle school faith formation program. Adult Leaders are truly the backbone of the program and are incredible witnesses of faith in action! There is no prerequisite for being a leader. We provide you with all materials, training, and support to make a deep and lasting impact in the lives of our middle schoolers. Our Helping Hands team provides various types of support and maintenance around the SOLLC building and grounds. Some of their past projects include painting, repairing, organizing, gardening, mulching and creatively solving needs from each ministry. SERVE THE WIDER COMMUNITY Looking for ways to share your gifts of service in the wider community? Check out these opportunities with our SOLLC outreach ministries or community partners. Hope's Portage Hope's Portage is a transitional housing apartment building located across the street from Shepherd of the Lake. It will open in late fall 2025 and will provide 12 apartments for families experiencing homelessness. SOLLC is partnering with Scott County and CAP Agency to support this facility and the residing families. Shepherd of the Lake will provide wrap around services for the residents including a food pantry, starter supply packs, apartment flipping in between family stays, and special activities and events. Learn more and how to volunteer. Community Plate SOLLC, in partnership with Smoke Signals 501c3 Non-Profit, is working to combat food insecurity and gather all people for food and fellowship. We will offer a free monthly community meal the last Thursday of each month from 5:15pm-6:15pm. Volunteer to help prepare, serve, set up, or clean up this meal. Please spread the word and join us! CAP Agency The work we do with the CAP Agency assists and empowers individuals and families to achieve social and economic well-being in partnership with our community. How Can I Help: 1) Volunteer at the CAP Food Shelf. 2) Volunteer at the CAP Thrift Store. 3) Donate Non-Perishable Food . Please place your food donations in the bin located in the coat closet near main office at SOLLC. SisterLink Sister Link is a service group at SOLLC that provides support for the residents at Passageways (a shelter for trafficked teens and young adults ages 13-24). When you come to worship on Sunday mornings, we want to ensure you feel comfortable with where you’re going and what to expect! Logistics Flow of Service Communion Where to Sit Sunday School LOGISTICS! When you enter through our main doors, our greeters will be there to help you find your way to where you need to go - whether it’s Sunday School, donuts & coffee, or just straight to worship. Feel free to mingle and enjoy conversations or make your way to your seat before worship begins. There are no paper programs or hymnals to grab; all scripture, prayers, and song lyrics are shown on the large screens in each corner of the worship center. Bring a Coffee or Grab One at SOLLC We welcome you to bring a coffee or grab one at church to enjoy during our time together. No Dress Code Come in whatever makes you feel comfortable and most authentically yourself! Kid-Friendly Wiggle Worship Kids were made to move, and we have created a space for them to do just that! We have set up various spots throughout the church that allows children to play and worship together! WHAT'S THE FLOW OF EACH SERVICE? Our worship services are approximately 45 minutes from start to finish. Music is a very important part of who we are at Shepherd of the Lake. We feature a variety of music ensembles, including a professional live band at our 10:30am service. Our 9am service is more traditional, featuring our bell choir, organist, and other choir ensembles. One of our pastors delivers the message each week. Children participating in Sunday School are welcomed into the worship service with a children’s message prior to Communion or the sacrament of baptism. We finish each service with a blessing and a song where the children are welcomed back up front to play musical instruments along with our musicians. Whether it’s your first worship experience with us or you’ve been with us for some time, we hope that you’ll always feel welcomed with Open Hearts, Open Minds, and an Open Table! COMMUNION Everyone is welcome to take communion, regardless of age, faith, and membership status. This is God’s meal, and all people should have access to the grace of God made known to us in Communion. Gluten-Free Options We offer a Gluten-Free Holy Communion option upon request. Just ask when you come up for communion. Communion Servers Each Sunday a team of volunteers assist with setting up the communion stations and serving communion during worship. If you're interested in serving in this way, learn more on our Serve page. WHERE TO SIT? We are blessed with ample space for our community to worship together. Not sure where to sit? See the various seating options available below and make yourself at home wherever you feel most comfortable. Balcony Seating Our balcony level is lined with chairs for people who are looking for stadium-type seating and/or easy wheelchair access. Main Floor Seating We offer a mix of chair seating and round tables on the main floor. The round tables offer space for kids (and grownups!) to color or have snacks. Behind the round tables is a playroom where kids can hang out with their grownups. Tiered Section Seating Our tiered section seating includes chairs on the left side of our worship area (when you’re looking at the main stage). This section also includes a children’s play area. SUNDAY SCHOOL Children ages 3 (toilet independent) through fourth grade are welcomed in Sunday School. Children must be registered to attend Sunday School for safety and preparation purposes. S'More Worship Join us for S'More Outdoor Worship Services in our courtyard on May 8, June 12, July 10, August 14 & September 11 (the 2nd Thursday of each month) at 7pm. We'll gather for fun and fellowship, prayer and praise, a scripture reflection, and Holy Communion. Grief & Loss Support Grief and loss are part of the human experience, but when your world has been flipped upside down with a painful loss, it can be very difficult to navigate. We at Shepherd of the Lake are here to walk with you on your grief and loss journey, providing support and resources along the way. GROWING THROUGH LOSS If you’ve experienced loss and need additional support, consider joining the Growing Through Loss Group (GTL), which provides support for adults who have experienced loss, information about the grieving process, caring and support from others who are also grieving, and a confidential setting to share feelings and memories. SOLLC is one of 15 Interdenominational churches making up the South Suburban Grief Coalition which meets over a five-week span in the spring and fall. We do, however, have spaces during worship that have been created for little ones. There is a wiggle area in the upper sanctuary with toys and chairs, a room in the lower sanctuary where kids and parents can gather, and we have tables and chairs in the lower worship area for families to sit together while children color, play or read. Can I take Communion if I am not Lutheran? Yes, all are welcome to participate in Communion here at SOLLC. Can I rent space? Yes, you can. We will provide you with all materials, training, and support to make a deep and lasting impact in the lives of our middle schoolers. What to Expect Background Checks More Leader Info Leader Guides WHAT TO EXPECT Small group leaders will journey with a group of 6+ students each Wednesday evening to connect, lead interactive discussions, and have fun! Leaders will be provided with a Leader Guide each week, training along the way, and support from our welcome team, to ensure that everyone feels safe and affirmed. Your Role as a Living Water Leader: Provide a safe space for faith and life exploration. Model healthy mentor and peer relationships. Plant seeds of faith while leaving space for questions and a wide range of perspectives. Hold space for imperfection, growth, struggle, and new ideas. Welcome and affirm all students and leaders with Open Hearts, Open Minds, and an Open Table. Have Fun!!! CONFIDENTIAL BACKGROUND CHECKS Creating a safe environment for our children and adolescents is of the utmost importance at SOLLC. All adult volunteers working with minors are required to submit to a confidential criminal background check every other year. Background information is confidential and follow-up will only occur should something flag on your report. All adult volunteers must have a current background check on file to be eligible to volunteer with minors. Please follow the steps below to complete your background check application and review all Mandated Reporter expectations. Whether you've experienced the death of a loved one or you're planning ahead, Shepherd of the Lake will help support you on your journey. Funerals Funerals create an important space for both grief and celebration of the lives we share with our loved ones. Whether you've experienced the death of a loved one or you're planning ahead, Shepherd of the Lake will help support you on your journey. Typical funeral accommodations include a meeting with a pastor, visitation, funeral worship service, burial/internment, and luncheon. We want to help celebrate your loved one in a way that is meaningful for you and your family, so if you’re thinking of something a little different, please let us know. We will do our best to honor your ideas. Frequently Asked Questions My loved one just passed away, what do I do? You have a couple of choices: 1. Call Shepherd of the Lake at 952-230-2988 and ask for the pastor on call. If no one answers or it is after hours, you will be prompted to the pastor on call. 2. Call a local funeral home. Shepherd of the Lake uses Ballard-Sunder (952-447-2633), McNearny-Schmidt (952-445-2755), or White (952-894-5080). Do I need to be a member to have my or my loved one’s funeral at Shepherd of the Lake? No, you do not have to be a member. How many attendees can Shepherd of the Lake accommodate? Shepherd of the Lake can accommodate up to 800 people. Can I plan for my funeral now? Absolutely! Many families are grateful when the preferences of their loved ones are known and can be honored upon their passing. You can start preparing by using our Funeral Planning Guide which is available by emailing kariunruh@sollc.org.(mailto:kariunruh@sollc.org) What does a funeral include and cost? When you have a funeral at Shepherd of the Lake, our funeral accommodations include clergy honorarium, musician, AV tech, custodial, luncheon coordinator, bulletins, and a building site fee. These accommodations typically cost around $1,150 when a funeral home is planning with the family and around $1,250 when no funeral home is used. Soloists/Cantors are also available for an additional $100 honorarium, and the cost of food for a luncheon is an additional cost of $3 to $4 per person. Is clergy available for offsite funerals? Yes, clergy is available for offsite funerals for a $250 honorarium. Please contact the main office at 952-230-2928 for more information on off-site funerals. I am having my loved one’s body cremated by the Cremation Society. Do I need a funeral home also? No, you do not, but it is highly recommended. There are a lot of steps involved, everything from ordering death certificates, submitting obituaries, providing a guest book, setting up for the visitation, and the list goes on. Funeral homes do all of this for you so you can focus on your family and not have to worry about all of the logistics. Do funeral homes also perform cremations? Yes, most of them do.

Feed My Starving Children MobilePack February 2nd-8th SOLLC is hosting the South Metro MobilePack from February 3rd-8th. Adults and children 5 years and older will measure and scoop ingredients, seal bags and prepare boxes for shipping. By volunteering, donating, or fundraising, your generosity makes a huge difference in the lives of thousands of children in need around the world. At least 6,200 children die each day from hunger-related causes (UNICEF). Feed My Starving Children (FMSC) is a Christian non-profit organization committed to feeding God’s starving children hungry in body and spirit. The process is simple: People just like you donate funds for the meal ingredients. Volunteers hand-pack the meals. Meals are donated to FMSC food partners around the world. We have a wonderful team that you’ll work with, including a pastor, musician (piano/organ), wedding coordinator, sound technician, and custodian. Your wedding will be filled with the love of God, masterfully planned, and flawlessly executed. Pre-Marriage Process We are excited to play a part not only in your wedding ceremony but also in helping you grow a healthy relationship. The pre-marriage process at SOLLC helps support you and your partner on your path to marriage, giving you the tools, community, and encouragement to help set you up for a strong and healthy marriage. Contact Us Our Space SOLLC has gorgeous high ceilings with multiple windows in our worship center, as well as a beautiful, sprawling outdoor area. The space can accommodate large weddings (seating 800) and yet can feel intimate for smaller groups. Our "backyard" is Horkey Park, which is the perfect outdoor space for photos, featuring an expansive pond with a long bridge, gazebo, and trail. Have a wedding idea that is out of the ordinary?
