< Back Kyle Gray Young Kyle Gray Young is a singer-songwriter, music educator, and music historian living in Minneapolis. Originally from just north of Chicago, Kyle has been composing music and playing guitar since the age of five. He has released 11 albums and 32 books of sheet music. On stage Kyle performs a wide variety of cover songs in both English and Finnish as well as his own original English songs. He started his performing career in 2000 playing at folk clubs in Chicago while he was still in high school. Kyle has been teaching since 2014 and has a diverse roster of students across the country that learn various instruments, composition, music theory, and recording technology with him. When Kyle isn’t immersed in music, he can be found watching Star Trek, reading, playing chess, and hanging out with his cat Delila. He also partakes in daily meditation, daily walks, and enjoys a plant-based lifestyle. Previous Next

< Back Bonnie Hallettt Bonnie has been a private music teacher for over 50 years. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in music and art at Moorhead State University and received a Master's in Music and Art at San Diego State University. During her teaching career, Miss Bonnie has taught grades 1, 5-8 in Music, Art, English, and Reading. She played violin in country and bluegrass bands and for the Greater Grand Forks Symphony. She also headed up a bluegrass band called Prairiegrass, that played the greater metro area for a number of years and at Minnesota Bluegrass Association festivals. Miss Bonnie lives in Prior Lake and enjoys visiting her four grandchildren, driving to lakes and state parks, and singing in the Shepherd of the Lake Lutheran Church choir. Previous Next

High School Ministry Service Trip. We will enjoy plenty of fun adventures along the way as we learn to show up in this world through service to others. Trip dates are July 14th – 20th. Register FAQs Donate Registration Registration HIGH SCHOOL SERVICE TRIP Kansas City TRIP DATES: July 12-18 COST: $750 Leading up to the trip, there will be fundraising opportunities to help you subsidize the cost of the trip. Partial scholarships are available upon request. It is our goal that this trip is financially accessible for all interested participants. Please provide a non-refundable deposit of $150 upon registration. The second payment of $300 is due May 1st. Final payment of $300 due June 1st. Where are we staying? We will stay at Atonement Lutheran Church in Overland Park, KS. What are we sleeping on? Church floors in sleeping bags! Are we getting fed? Yes! Most meals will be included in the Service Trip cost. However, there may be some “on your own” meals where we are traveling or out and about in the city. We’ll let you know when these are and students will need to have some money with them for these meals. What does a typical Service Trip day look like? Morning: Wake up, Breakfast, Head to Service Site Afternoon: Lunch, Finish Work, Showers Evening: Activity out in the town, Dinner, Evening Worship, Lights Out What kind of service work will we be doing? We like to partner with different organizations in the city we’re in, so each year will be unique. Past service work projects have been doing landscape work at a preschool and serving meals in an historic redlined district. The work is meant to help us learn more about the city and see how different organizations show up to serve. All projects are set up to be age and developmentally appropriate for our students. I heard there’s adventures to be had on these trips, what are those like? Each day we try to get out and experience the city we’re staying in of the trip. We tend to keep this hush hush so they’re a surprise for our students. HOWEVER, we can let you know what we’ve done in the past! < Back Leah Toppen Leah Toppen has been teaching K-12 instrumental music for over 12+ years. She began performing piano, trumpet, and organ for congregations when she was just 12 years old. Leah’s love for music led her to Shepherd of the Lake where she recently became Associate Music Director. When she’s not sharing her musical talents at SOLLC, she can be found knitting, sewing, gardening, or paddleboarding. Leah grew up on an organic blueberry farm and now lives in Mound with her husband and Bernese Mountain Dog, Lambeau. Previous Next

Music is a very big part of our community and is beautifully woven throughout almost every ministry we offer. Join our choirs, rock bands, bells and orff, and even music lessons. Music Ministry Music is a very big part of our community and is beautifully woven throughout almost every ministry we offer. Music has the ability to heal, invigorate, and create peace, and has a special way of bringing us closer to our faith and strengthening our bonds as humans. When we make music together at Shepherd of the Lake, we build strong bonds of fellowship, continue growing and learning new skills, and have the opportunity to share our learned skills with the community both in and outside of worship on Sundays. We have a variety of ways for people to participate in music, no matter the level of experience, whether it's singing in a choir, ringing the bells, rocking out with the band, or taking music lessons.
